People usually consult a psychoanalyst in a moment of crisis. It can take time to understand how you arrived at this point, but by coming for an exploratory conversation you can begin to grasp the essence of the problem and this will orient the work that we do together.
Psychoanalysis works not through the quantity of words spoken, but through finding the elements of logic in the speech that structures your life. We don’t know in advance how long each session will last. The gaps between sessions are an important part of the work.
It was chance that led me to encounter Lacanian psychoanalysis back in the 1990s – a few unexpected words from a work colleague pointed me in this direction, and the crisis I was in gave me the energy that I needed to go and find an analyst. This had an immediate effect, and after the suffering subsided I decided to learn as much as I could about this way of working.
We can discuss fees and how to structure the work (how often you come) at our first meeting.
